Bonefish

The bonefish is the principal attraction of the Chetumal Bay and of the areas that you will be able to fish. We generally find them in small schools and they are fished by sight. The average size is from 3 to 4 lb with great chances to find some of about 6 to 8 lb.

Flyfishing:

Rods: 9’ four pieces fast action rods from 6 wt to 10 wt.

Lines: WF Floating lines, reel with 100 yards of 20 lb. Backing.

Leader: 9’ to 12’ long leader, 8 to 16 lb test.

Flies: Gotchas, crazy charlies, mantis shrimp, and general shrimp patterns.

Colors: Tan, light brown, light pink, white, and olive.

Spinning:

Rods: Light spinning rods of 6’ 6" to 8’ length, medium action.

Lines: 10 to 16 lb test, mono, brided, or fluoro.
